Mariano's is an unusual (but good) feature on the Kings Heath High Street. This humble, characterful, little café recognised a niche for indisputably good Cornish pasties and baguettes that follow suit. There's no other place on the High Street that rivals their's when you need to fill up on good, wholesome stodge.

Their menu is broad, and from what I've had is very tasty, hearty, soul-food (of a British sort) that satisfies the emptiest of human food tanks. You can take a seat, tuck in, refuel, smugly rub your belly and muse about how nice it is to eat, eat lots and particularly, eat good food.  It has a friendly atmosphere and is simply a good quality café, specialising in good quality food.

Previously known as 'Cornish Connection' and just around the corner from Poplar Road Mariano's Cafe is a traditional eatery with a difference. So yes, whilst you can pick up tea, coffee, sandwiches and jacket spuds here it's really worth coming here to try their range of 'award winning' pasties. There are all sorts of varieties on display and for sale - with everything from chicken balti right through to tomato and basil. There are a number of seats inside and the owner (Mariano?) is a friendly sort who will happily talk you through the specials. The pasties themselves are hearty and taste pretty authentic with a thick traditional crust. I also like the array of leaflets they hold here (which probably says more about me than the cafe itself)

I can safely say that there is only one place in the Kings Heath area where you can get good quality baguettes alongside an impressive variety of award winning pasties, that place is Cornish Mariano's cafe. On top of that they offer all day specials such as fish and chips at the ridiculously low price of two pounds ninety nine, which begs the question, is there anything Mariano's can't do? It's certainly rare to find an independent eatery which offers a range as expansive as Mariano's with such a high quality consistently. I can safely say having lived nearby Kings Heath for most of my young life that I am proud it has a place as original and good quality as Mariano's. Long may its success continue!

They're ok. Very cheap so it's good for a quick lunch. The food is very bland to my taste, but my husband really likes them. I wasn't impressed by the "award winning Cornish pasties" but I'm willing to try another one before I make a final decision.
